The European Fencing Championships “Genoa 2025” showcased at the BIT in Milan
The Absolute European Championships, in the year when Liguria is the European Region of Sport, will be the first event of the Olympic fencing cycle. From June 14 to 19, at the Jean Nouvel (qualifiers) and PalaSport (finals) venues in Genoa, the best 450 athletes from 45 nations will compete. A special opportunity to witness the performers of a highly spectacular discipline, already looking ahead to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. A chance for many young talents eager to make a name for themselves and secure a place in the national senior team. An exceptional spectacle for the Genoese, Ligurian, Italian, and international public, who will be captivated by the magic of fencing. The commitment of the Organizing Committee, chaired by Giuseppe Costa and coordinated by Giovanni Falcini, focuses on every organizational detail to celebrate the event’s protagonists and showcase the values and uniqueness of the most successful sport in Italy’s Olympic history. This will be achieved through the full involvement of institutions, businesses, and schools.
Fencing gives, fencing receives. The virtuous bond between sport and tourism is an exchange that enhances both a “traveling” discipline in its competitive activities and the territories that host it. To analyze and develop these themes, on February 10 and 11, the Italian Fencing Federation will participate in the 2025 International Tourism Exchange (BIT) at Fiera Milano-Rho. In the presence of federal president Luigi Mazzone, on Monday, February 10, at 11 AM in BIT Room 3, Pavilion 11, an in-depth session dedicated to the Absolute European Championships in Genoa will take place. Speakers will include the Sports Councillors of Liguria Region (Simona Ferro) and the Municipality of Genoa (Alessandra Bianchi), along with representatives of the European Championships Organizing Committee.
The discussion will cover Genoa’s journey from City Partner (December 2021) to the European capital of fencing, the touristic impact of a European Championship on the entire Ligurian region, and the Organizing Committee’s roadmap through side events: “Scherma in Piazza” in Chiavari and participation in SportAbility Day to promote inclusion, “Scherma in Piazzetta” in Portofino, the Caruggiadi, and a special pre-Christmas afternoon at Decathlon.
The “Genova 2025” European Championships, organized with the support of the FIS, are backed by Regione Liguria and Comune di Genova and are sponsored by CONI and Sport e Salute. Partners of the 2025 European Championships include Costa Edutainment, ERG, Banca Passadore, Saar Depositi Portuali, Toyota, Gruppo Spinelli, Iveco, Silomar, Riberti, Columbus Informatica, and Convention Bureau Genova.
