The Organizing Committee of the “Genova 2025” European Championships will be in Basel, the host city of the 2024 continental event, this weekend. This will be an important opportunity for meetings focused on various organizational aspects of the competition, alongside the leaders of the European Fencing Confederation, chaired by Giorgio Scarso. The coordinator of the Organizing Committee (COL) and regional president Giovanni Falcini, together with national president Paolo Azzi, will also meet with representatives from over 40 federations that will participate in Genova 2025 at the Jean Nouvel complex in Genoa in June 2025. This event will mark the first official challenge of the Olympic cycle leading up to the 2028 Los Angeles Games, providing young athletes with the opportunity to showcase their talent and experienced fencers with the chance to reinforce their standing.

Following the success of the Italian Youth and Cadet Championships (May 24-26), which received public recognition from FIS and club officials across Italy, the Genova 2025 Organizing Committee will also promote Genoa’s tourism offerings at its stand in Switzerland. Additionally, COL representatives will receive the European Fencing Confederation flag on Sunday at the conclusion of the competition, where Italy will be represented by the 24 selected athletes heading to the Olympics.

“This will be an important moment to promote our city and the quality of our organizational proposal,” says Giovanni Falcini. “We received a lot of praise for the Italian Championships, which was very rewarding, but now our entire team is fully focused on next June’s event. In Basel, alongside the honor of receiving the flag, we will also have the responsibility of gathering valuable insights from the Confederation to ensure we are fully prepared for the European Championships. The support of the Federation and all institutional and commercial partners who believe in our project remains essential.”

The Genova 2025 European Championships, organized with the support of FIS, are backed by the Liguria Region and the Municipality of Genoa and are sponsored by CONI and Sport e Salute. Official partners of the 2025 European Championships include Costa Edutainment, ERG, Saar Depositi Portuali, Toyota, Gruppo Spinelli, Iveco, Silomar, Riberti, Columbus Informatica, and Convention Bureau Genova.
