The European Fencing Championships “Genoa 2025” presented at BIT in Milan

Tappa alla Borsa Internazionale del Turismo 2025 per gli Europei “Genova 2025”. Un’occasione importante per presentare il grande appuntamento inserito nel programma di “Liguria 2025 Regione Europea dello Sport” per cui la Liguria schermistica, con il Comitato Regionale e le società della Federazione Italiana Scherma, è al lavoro da 4 anni. Dal 14 al 19 giugno, presso il Jean Nouvel (eliminatorie) e il PalaSport (finali), il pubblico genovese potrà ammirare e applaudire i migliori 450 atleti provenienti da 45 nazioni. Sarà il primo passo della Nazionale di Scherma, la più medagliata dello sport olimpico azzurro, verso le Olimpiadi di Los Angeles 2028.

Oggi alla Fiera Milano-Rho, il focus sul binomio virtuoso tra sport e turismo, uno scambio che accresce tanto una disciplina “itinerante” nello sviluppo della sua attività agonistica quanto i territori che la ospitano.

Sarà, per me, il primo evento importante da Presidente della Federscherma e faremo di tutto per regalare alla nostra nazione un evento memorabile sia sotto il profilo organizzativo che agonistico con i nostri azzurri in pedana” afferma Luigi Mazzone, Presidente della Federazione Italiana Scherma.

“Si accendono i riflettori sull’evento che rappresenta il fiore all’occhiello del palinsesto di Liguria 2025 Regione Europea dello Sport” – afferma Simona Ferro, Assessore allo Sport della Regione Liguria – “I campionati europei di scherma porteranno a Genova non solo i migliori atleti continentali, ma anche migliaia di addetti ai lavori e appassionati, generando un grande indotto per il territorio ligure e le attività ricettive del territorio. A giugno ci aspettano sei giorni di grande sport in una cornice rinnovata e spettacolare come quella del Waterfront di Levante”.

“After presenting the 2024 Italian Cadet and Junior Championships, the International Tourism Exchange now shines a spotlight on the 2025 European Fencing Championships,” highlights Alessandra Bianchi, Councillor for Sport and Tourism of the Municipality of Genoa. “The stage for this prestigious event, the first international competition of the new Olympic quadrennial, will be the new Palasport. An iconic venue that encapsulates the sporting history of Genoa and beyond, even mentioned by Lonely Planet in its Best in Travel guide. I extend my compliments to the entire organizing committee for the expertise, professionalism, and passion with which they have meticulously planned every detail of this event, which I am sure will bring us immense excitement.”

“We officially begin the countdown to the European Championships. We are ready to welcome all national teams, along with families and fencing enthusiasts,” says Giuseppe Costa, President of the Local Organizing Committee. “We are talking about thousands of people who will spread the beauty of our Genoa worldwide in the year that Liguria is the European Region of Sport. We have involved institutions and the local business community, working together to create a major event that will have positive repercussions for the world of sports and young people.”

This morning, the focus was on Genoa’s journey from City Partner (December 2021) to European capital of fencing, the tourism impact of a European Championship on the entire Ligurian territory, and the approach of the Organizing Committee through collateral events: “Scherma in Piazza” in Chiavari and participation in the SportAbility Day to promote inclusion, “Scherma in Piazzetta” in Portofino, the Caruggiadi, and a special pre-Christmas afternoon at Decathlon. The attention is now on the next four months, with other significant initiatives ahead, starting with a strong presence at the Festa dello Sport at the Porto Antico of Genoa from May 23 to 25.

The European Championships “Genoa 2025,” organized with the support of FIS, are backed by the Liguria Region and the Municipality of Genoa, under the patronage of CONI and Sport e Salute. Partners of the 2025 European Championships include Costa Edutainment, ERG, Banca Passadore, Saar Depositi Portuali, Toyota, Gruppo Spinelli, Iveco, Silomar, Riberti, Columbus Informatica, and Convention Bureau Genova.
