Success for Fencing in Chiavari

Great Success for “Fencing in Piazza” in Chiavari: Giulia Rizzi Promotes the European Fencing Championships Genova 2025

On Saturday, September 21, Chiavari hosted an extraordinary fencing event: Fencing in Piazza. The initiative was a resounding success, serving as a major platform for promoting the European Fencing Championships Genova 2025, which will take place from June 14 to 19. The event featured a team relay and a special exhibition by Chiavari Scherma, alongside the young athletes of ANFFAS Chiavari, all set in the beautiful Piazza Matteotti.

The event was attended by several authorities, including the Regional Sports Councillor Simona Ferro, the Mayor of Chiavari Federico Messuti, the Municipal Sports Councillor Gianluca Ratto, the President of CIP Liguria Gaetano Cuozzo, and the Regional Coordinator of Sport e Salute Michela Carfagna.

The highlight of the event was the emotional return to the piste of Olympic épée champion Giulia Rizzi, who shared her excitement: “This is the first time I’ve stepped back onto the piste since my Olympic success, and it was thrilling to do so in Chiavari, a special place to promote the European Championships in Genoa 2025. Fencing is a wonderful sport, loved by children, and I hope the Olympic effect continues to boost its growth.”

Rizzi, who frequently trains in Liguria, expressed great anticipation for the new competitive season, which will culminate with the Genova 2025 event. She added: “After my team victories, I’m eager to achieve great individual results as well.”

Also taking part in the event were young fencing talents from Liguria, master champion Claudio Pirani, and Under-23 European gold medalist Filippo Armaleo. Their participation, alongside Giulia Rizzi, thrilled the audience and attending officials.

Giovanni Falcini, President of the Liguria Regional Fencing Committee, emphasized the importance of such events: “Having a champion like Giulia Rizzi here is an inspiration for the younger generation. We will continue to organize promotional initiatives across Liguria to raise awareness about fencing and the European Championships in Genoa 2025.”

The European Fencing Championships Genova 2025 are organized with the support of FIS and backed by the Liguria Region, the Municipality of Genoa, CONI, and Sport e Salute. Official partners include Costa Edutainment, ERG, Saar Depositi Portuali, Toyota, Gruppo Spinelli, Iveco, Silomar, Riberti, Columbus Informatica, and Convention Bureau Genova.
